E.P.
Taylor built the venue, Woodbine, and he created the herd of all
stars
that
should have cemented the Canadian racing industry for many years.
In
the
1980’s, yearlings by the sires listed below and their sons,
Canadian
breds,
sold in some cases for over $1M.
Over
the last several years, back to the 80’s, maybe one or two sell for
about
$200k. There are no Dancer line foals. Coolmore in Ireland has
2-3
Dancer
line horses running in almost every Classic in UK and Ireland …
the
U.S.
Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup races always have their share
of
Dancer
line horses.
So here, in Ontario, what happened? The slots whiners complain about a loss of
funds .. for over 12 years they have been racing $1,000 horses for purses where
the entire fields aren’t the value of the purse. They could have upgraded the mares,
they could have imported some of that Dancer blood back … they could have resurrected
Windfields … I’d love to know how many new cars they bought!
In the 60’s , 70’s and 80’s we used to line up at 10AM for a good seat for the Plate.
Now we can arrive 10 minutes to post and lie down in a row of seats. The last Plate
winners that had success running in Graded stakes in the U.S. were Awesome Again
and
Dance Smartly, in the 90’s , both Dancer line horses!
I’d love to watch racing at Woodbine again, but except for Woodbine Mile day and
International day with multiple foreign entries, there’s nothing to see. The Royal Ascot
meet in mid-June, loaded with those Dancer line horses is the best meet in the World
bar
none.
Drool over those ancient super stars displayed below .. son of a gun, you had them,
but
you let them get away!
If you don't know who this is, you don't know racing!
